Cookie Policy

This page explains what we store on your device, why, and what you can refuse. It was last reviewed on 25 August 2026.

Nothing optional loads before you choose

Analytics and advertising are not loaded when you arrive. No request is made to Google — not for analytics, not for advertising — until you accept the banner. If you decline, none is ever made. You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer.

Our fonts are served from this website. They are downloaded and bundled when the site is built, so reading a page sends nothing to Google's font servers.

Strictly necessary

These make the site work and cannot be switched off. They are not used to track you.

• fw_session — keeps you signed in to your reader account. 30 days. Cannot be read by JavaScript.
• fw_oauth_state — a security check used only while you are signing in with Google, so another site cannot start a sign-in on your behalf. 10 minutes.
• fw:consent — remembers your answer to the cookie banner, so you are not asked again on every page. Stored in your browser, not sent to us.

Preferences

Stored in your browser to remember how you like the site. Never sent to us and never used to identify you.

• NEXT_LOCALE — whether you read in English or Arabic. One year.
• fw:theme — light or dark mode.
• fw:favourites — the clubs you have starred in the score bar.
• fw:voter and fw:voted:… — a random value so a match poll counts your vote once. It is not linked to any account and is never sent anywhere else.

Analytics — only if you accept

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets _ga and _ga_<property>, which last two years and distinguish one browser from another.

Advertising — only if you accept, and only while advertising is switched on

When advertising is enabled we use Google AdSense, which sets its own cookies to serve advertisements and limit how often you see the same one. Google publishes the full list on its own site.

Refusing, or changing your mind

Choose "Reject" on the banner, or open cookie settings from the footer at any time. Declining costs you nothing on this site: every feature except analytics and advertising works exactly the same. You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser settings, which will remove everything listed above.
